Variations on a theme

(....One of MY themes)
It seems to me that there are only a few basic ideas in each one of these broad areas:
nature, politics, food, architecture, music, humor, entertainment, philosophy, psychology, sit-coms, urban design, archeology, mathematics, fairy tales, energy, religion, legends, myths.....the list of broad human endeavored and thought is endless, right?

Within each category though, the possibilities seem to be limited.

Some for instances:
Food.
For human consumption, it has to be digestible, small enough to fit in our mouths, not poisonous, and it has to taste ok or better.
So that excludes things like hammers, trees and rocks. But it makes chocolate covered grasshoppers acceptable, and fungus and mold, too.
Still, among ALL the stuff in our world, what we can eat is fairly limited.

Religion.
If you believe in a deity, that god is vengeful or loving, wrathful or benign, personal or impersonal.
The SYSTEM that is human religion though, is a way to keep each other in line---tenants to more peaceful co-existence with each other here on earth. The BUSINESS that is religion is a way to get whatever you want: for the hierarchy, it's power, wealth and comforts; for the rank and file, it's implied salvation, the go-to place when a tornado is nearby.
When I think of all that's happened in the world because of religious indoctrination--the crusades, fundalmentalism, asceticism, martyrdom, wars, missionaries, judgment of others--whew, it seems like a fair idea gone terribly wrong.
Still, the basic ideas are only a few: Be good, don't hurt others, try to love.

Nature.
Structurally, the natural world is full of curves. Circles, ovals, waves, that exercise place.... Our bodies are mostly round parts, flora and fauna are made up of round or curved shapes. Flowers occur in a few simple forms, and most radiate from a center to produce seeds, which are often round. Stems and bones and trunks are mostly round (ok, except for the mint family--square stems, right...lol).
And then, there's this: http://www.yuridojc.com/2004dec/photos/things/1_1.htm
The variation of how we view those shapes....wink, wink.

Oh man, the world is SOOOO cool, huh?
